We believe the Bible in its entirety to be the word of God. Studies are crafted by guides directly from scripture. We do our best to neither leave out nor go beyond what is written in our conversations and studies.
Our scripture-centered approach allows us to keep Camp Deborah inclusive of all christian backgrounds.
We may reference external historical and cultural contexts. This decision is a result of our understanding that we approach scripture from a different context than what was written, and our social understandings of the world influence what we read. When these contexts are added to our studies, they will be presented as context to consider when reading without intent to influence doctrine or belief.
No question or conversation is considered unacceptable, inappropriate, or taboo at Camp Deborah. This is an environment where we learn and explore together, safely and without judgement.
Every participant is entitled to her own opinion and beliefs without judgement from others. We encourage challenging and critical conversation based in scripture with the goal of exploration and deepening understanding. Such conversations happen at the discretion, comfort, and will of participants. There is no room for judgement.
Additionally, in the backcountry, we all share responsibility for each other's health and safety! We are here to support each other, ask for help, and ensure that no one gets left behind.
Safety of guides and participants is foremost in our decisions about where and how to host Camp Deborah. Location is thoughtfully selected; dates and places are kept private to participants only. We encourage anyone with concerns or interest in regards to safety to contact us directly.
Our participants lead this trip as much as our guides do. Guides are here to ensure the safety of participants and direct conversations when necessary to ensure they remain welcoming and beneficial to all.
Our guides act as mentors, and many of our participants have chosen to stay in touch with them outside of Camp Deborah. We believe mentorship is an important part of God's design for the church (Titus 2:4-5) and we encourage our guides to connect regularly with mentors in their own lives.
